A Musical Tribute to RI Visual Artists and Photographers

This cycle of poetry and music was originally scored for soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, flute, cello, piano and percussion was completed during 2005 as part of a project grant awarded by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Each piece was inspired by the paintings and photographs of some of Rhode Island’s talented artists and highlights some of our state’s natural beauty. The composer, Noreen Inglesi, visited art galleries and museums throughout the local area and interviewed each of the artists involved. A band arrangement was completed by the composer for six of the pieces of this cycle during the spring of 2006. These works were premiered at a concert on March 12, 2006 at the North Providence High School featuring the American Band, under the direction of Dr. Gene Pollart and the North Providence Elementary All-Town Chorus, under the direction of Marcia Beagan. These pieces were also performed on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Cranston West High School Auditorium by the American Band and the Cranston Elementary Chorus, under the direction of Barbara Pavone and Diane Mc Mahon.
